The artist presents her poster: In a cold winter one can actually fo some fishing on Riddarfjärden or why not go ice-skating? In the background we see stadshuset in Stockholm with its well-known tower. The inspiration for this poster came from photos of Riddarfjärden in winter and retro illustrations and prints. Surely travel posters can’t […]

This is a French-language poster for Norway. The (unknown) artist, with the signature ”Schenk”, has used the sky to illustrate the smallness of the tourist and woman & man. Thru the poster we reverently admire the mighty mountain world. The slogan in the poster reinforces the message: Norway is a true natural wonder!

In this vintage travel poster advertising Suécia – Sweden – in Portugese the message is clear: Sweden is truly a country of colors AND contrasts. It was published in the 1950s in an effort to create a Scandinavian series of almost identical travel posters for Denmark, Sweden and (most probably) also Norway. As you can […]

This fabulous vintage poster advertises staycation in Sweden. It’s an excellent example of the Swedish Tourist Association’s insistence on their message. By every means possible – through posters, brochures, films and presentations – it tried to persuade Swedish tourists to travel within Sweden, still more than 50 years after their founding in the 1880s. That […]

A slightly odd poster perhaps. The photographer is doctor, explorer and photographer Sixten Haraldsson. He had half of northern Sweden as his working area – he was a true adventurer. Haraldsson’s picture collection is unique and a true cultural heritage, and much of it is in the Ájtte Museum in Jokkmokk. The poster is also […]

The sky is the limit! SAS expanded quickly in the 1960s: The jetplane was introduced in 1959, the new airport in Stockholm, Arlanda, was opened in 1962 and soon they – unbelievably enough – offered direct flights to long-distance destinations such as New York, Chicago and Tokyo (with a fast stopover in Alaska, of course). […]

It’s early (so early that you still can see the stars in the sky!) in the morning, and the local fishermen are the only ones awake at this hour. They are out trying get their catch with these nets, and it’s pretty incredible that you still today can see the fishermen using the same techniques […]

This poster is a real oldie! It’s impossible to say excactly how old, but from the flag seen on the top of the poster, we get a clue: the flag is a symbol of the union between Sweden and Norway. The union was dissolved in 1905, so our guess is that this poster is made […]
