Bengt Linnarsson

Bengt Linnarsson was born in Kalmar and grew up in Vadstena, where his father worked as a principal. Bengt wanted to become an architect and got his architectural education at KTH in Stockholm. After he finished his studies in the late 1930s, he was employed as deputy architect in Härnösand for the county of Västernorrland. He worked there until retirement.

Linnarsson mainly worked with city planning in the county. One of the buildings that he drew was Vårdkasstugan, a restaurant and a café on the top of the mountain Vårdkasberget. The building is still there and serves as a landmark for tourist coming from the south to Härnösand. Painting and posters were a hobby for Bengt and something he did because he took great pleasure in it. He often painted in oil and watercolor and was a self-taught person.

The poster “Ångermanland” was custom-made for the Tourist Associaton of Ångermanland. The Poster was noted in the monthly magazine Annonsören in 1948, where “Mr Poster” writes the following:

“The landscape poster from Ångermanland has a nice tone. The idea of the flower, typical for the area, to be put in the foreground is good, also the ladder for drying hay. If one should mark on something, we think that the foreground could have had more colors. Otherwise, the poster gives an appealing and pleasant impression, and the composition is good. Grade 4 (out of 5)”.

We're sorry, we don't yet have any posters by this artist in the shop.
