This illustration was born out of my love for ice skating and is a tribute to nordic outdoors culture. There is something magical about being out on a frozen lake on a sunny winter day. I have spent much time in Dalarna and Hälsingland and love the mountainous landscape as well as the lakes and […]

In spring 1893, the first spring festival was held at Skansen in Stockholm on the initiative of Skansen’s founder Artur Hazelius. The festival ended on June 6th with a large flag festival. In 1916, a board for the Swedish Flag Day was formed to promote a national gathering around the flag. This beautiful poster by […]

There certainly is a nice timeless atmosphere in this poster by Per Beckman. Who wouldn’t want to crawl into the cabin in this mountain landscape where the roof is made of grass and even a small birch has taken root? The chimney suggests warmth and cosiness after a day trip up the fell that stands […]

This is a French-language poster for Norway. The (unknown) artist, with the signature ”Schenk”, has used the sky to illustrate the smallness of the tourist and woman & man. Thru the poster we reverently admire the mighty mountain world. The slogan in the poster reinforces the message: Norway is a true natural wonder!

The year before, he had made his breakthrough as a poster artist with an effective poster for the most modern thing imaginable: an express train. Rasmussen, like many Nordic poster artists, was inspired by the Ukrainian-French poster […]

In this vintage travel poster advertising Suécia – Sweden – in Portugese the message is clear: Sweden is truly a country of colors AND contrasts. It was published in the 1950s in an effort to create a Scandinavian series of almost identical travel posters for Denmark, Sweden and (most probably) also Norway. As you can […]

Some things just feel eternal. Like the harmony of skiing in Swedish Lapland. This poster was created almost 100 years ago, but hey, it looks like the 2020’s, doesn’t it? The poster was commissioned by the Swedish Tourist Association, they sure knew what the people needed in the stressful 1930s, sorry … the 2020’s.

Denmark is sooo much. Also in German! When the Danish artist Laus Lauesen wanted to create a poster for Denmark, he made a collage – in a quirky way. The figures look sure like they are thoroughly enjoying whatever they are doing in Denmark. The poster hunters at Come to Sweden have found a twin […]

Hey you! Welcome to the beautiful province of Västerbotten – West Bothnia! We’ve got rivers, mountains and even a small village with a church – and a factory. Yes, this charming image was how Västerbotten was marketed to travellers all over the world. We believe the poster is from the 1930s (it is undated). We […]
