About the artwork

Yes, Jönköping is known as the City of Matches. At the end of the 19th century the company Jönköping tändsticksfabrik had great success with their safety matches, and that was only one of several match factories in the city. The company was acquired by Ivar Kreuger in 1917 in connection with the founding of Svenska Tändsticks Aktiebolaget (STAB), the origin of today’s Swedish Match AB.

So when you hang this poster on your wall, you’re showcasing an important part of Sweden’s industrial history. Not to mention Sweden’s tourism history. Because Jönköping on the shores of Lake Vättern is, as you can see from the poster, a real gem.
