The company SVEA is one of three shipping companies (together with the Finnish Ångfartygs AB and Ångfartygs AB Bore) that later merged in the 1950s and became what today is Tallink Silja Line.
The company got its start in 1871, when four wholesalers in Stockholm came together and started the business. It was a golden age for the industry, and quite a few shipping companies came to being. However, few were left twenty years later, and no other Swedish shipping company has had an equally glorious history as Svea.
