Saltsjöbaden – Winter Sports

Already at the last turn of the century, Saltsjöbaden stood for a salty call for leisure and outdoor life – only half an hour from the stressful life of the city. A perfect day trip!

In 1891 at the age of 38 Knut Wallenberg, prominent bankman and politician, bought large areas of untouched land in the Stockholm archipelago. As the capstone, Wallenberg placed the Grand Hotel – elegantly captured also on the poster – facing south on a ringside seat by the water, with a railway of its own all the way to the entrance.

In ”Saltis” one could both take a dip in the sea from the bath house during summer time and throw oneself out on the powdered pists during the winters – even though the poster might suggest a bit higher drop height than the actual one. But the sunny winter paradise is anyhow welcoming everyone visiting Saltis, children as well as grown-ups!
