Erik Andrén was a distinguished cultural historian, who got his degree in Art History from the University in Stockholm. Painting was more of a hobby than a profesision for him, but almost by accident he also got to create posters at all his workplaces. He was employed by the open-ari museum Skansen in 1929, and he stayed there for almost 30 years. In 1949 he was assaigned as the curator and director of Skansens new Department of Cultural History. He stayed in that position until 1957, when he got a job at the Nordic Museum in Stocholm, just a few hundred metres from Skansen.
